Wheat Harvest in Central Illinois

by Lucas Veale, Assumption, IL

We cut 90 acres of wheat on a local farm south of Assumption.  We used the opportunity to get some “behind the wheel” experience for some employees in an S660.   The wheat was testing between 14-15.5% and we had to put some low heat on it to dry it for safe storage.  Once it was dry we moved it to a storage bin and kept the aeration fan running on it.  The wheat also had a low test weight due to the very wet weather leading up to harvest time.  The training was a success as those who got to operate the machine felt it was time well spent.  Hopefully we can do more in field experiences like this in the future.IMG_0099 (1) IMG_0098 IMG_0098 (1) IMG_0097 IMG_0096 IMG_0095 IMG_0094
